About Stay Standing

“If you start something worthwhile, nothing can stop it”

~ quote Dr John Flynn,
founder of the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service

Stay Standing empowers older people and Carers to manage falls risk for independence and builds community workforce falls prevention capacity. We provide a package of falls prevention training and best-practice program content, designed specifically for sustainable Primary and Community Care partnerships for a person-centred model of care. Here’s a quick Youtube clip about the training: https://youtu.be/QNTcrjZ3QiU

The Stay Standing program is group based and includes a home exercise component. The program is held in 8 weekly 2 hour sessions in community venues by trained facilitators. Program training model overview:

Bronze Level online modules provide background knowledge for anyone interested in evidence based falls prevention. Innovative, affordable, self-paced online learning, recognised by peak bodies for continuing professional development  (6 ESSA CPD points).

Silver Level live workshops teach the community based aged services workforce (e.g. care workers, health and fitness professionals) how to deliver the Stay Standing Program to groups of older people (9 ESSA CPD points). Find Silver Level training workshop schedule.

Stay Standing also partners with registered training organisations, government and non – government entities for effective, quality accredited falls prevention program delivery. Contact us for further information about Gold and Platinum Levels.

Does it work?

We ran a pilot program delivering Stay Standing to older groups (people aged 80+) receiving Home Care packages. Trained Community Care Workers led the programs with guest presentations from local Primary Care providers. The pilot results were presented at the 12th Australasian Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion Conference (2015) and at the World Health Organisation Health Promoting Hospitals conference (2016). The following poster summarises the pilot evaluation:
